Getting from Zakopane to Morskie Oko: how long it really takes

How long does it take to reach Morskie Oko from Zakopane?

The drive to the Palenica Bialczanska car park takes about 1 hour 20 minutes (26 km), measured in September 2026 outside peak season. In July and August add time for the queue to the car park.

From the car park a 9 km asphalt road leads to the mountain hut. You can walk it or take a horse cart - cars are not allowed.

When to leave Zakopane

To get a parking space, leave before 6 a.m. The car park is small and fills up early in season. The alternative is the afternoon, after 3 p.m., when some cars leave.

Can it be done in one day?

Yes, but it takes the whole day: the drive, 9 km each way on foot, a stop at the lake and the return journey.

Closer alternatives

If you do not want to spend a full day on one spot, Koscieliska Valley is about 16 minutes away and Kuznice, where the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch starts, about 12 minutes.
