When is the best time to visit the Tatras?

For good weather and quiet trails at the same time, choose September. The crowds are gone, the air is clear and the views are the longest of the year. May is the second such window, though snow can still lie high up.

Spring

Green valleys, full waterfalls, few people. Above 1500 m snow may linger into June, so higher routes need equipment and experience. The valleys are open without restrictions.

Summer

Longest days and full access to all trails - at the price of crowds. Start very early and pick the less obvious valleys.

Autumn

Our favourite season. September still gives warm days and empty trails; October adds colour but short daylight.

Winter

February is the safest bet for snow. The Kasprowy Wierch cable car runs, ski slopes are open and the valleys can be walked on snowshoes. High mountain routes in winter require preparation - avalanches are a real risk.
